Common dental procedures and the costs

Going to the dentist can be an adventure – you can go in for a simple routine cleaning and find out that a tooth needs to be extracted, or that you have a few cavities that need to be filled. While we all go to the dentist at least once a year, the unpredictability of each visit can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve curated a list of a few of the most commonly booked treatments and their typical costs, which you can expect to also book with your dentist one day or another. This way when you go to the dentist and find out you need certain procedures done, you’ll have an understanding of what to expect in terms of the process and related costs before committing.

Routine cleanings –  $80-$150

Teeth cleaning is basically the removal of tartar that builds up on teeth overtime. Tartar typically builds up even when being careful with brushing and flossing because there are just some spots that are very hard hard to reach on your own. If the tartar is left there, it can lead to periodontal disease.

Routine Exams – $75-$200

Routine exams consist of a dentist taking x-rays and checking your entire mouth to ensure your mouth is healthy, and if not – to spot any concerns before they get worse.

Extractions – $75-$250

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the socket in the bone. Teeth typically need to be extracted when they are crucially damaged and cannot be repaired, or if they are your wisdom teeth.

Cavity fillings – $75-$250

One of the most common – this is a restorative procedure that uses a filling to repair a tooth that’s been damaged by decay. This helps prevent decay to further damage the tooth and rids the tooth of sensitivity it typically begins to feel when damaged.

Implants – $2000-$4000

Dental implants are essentially replacement teeth for empty spaces in the mouth. Metal posts are surgically inserted into the jawbone, then the abutment and crown are placed on top to restore your mouth with normal shaped teeth. Dental implants cost can vary greatly from dentist to dentist, so you have to be sure to find the right dentist to ensure you’re not being over charged.

Root Canals – $1,000-$2,300

A root canal is needed when a damaged tooth is severely damaged to the point that a filling is not enough to fix it. The root canal procedure typically consists of  removing the damaged part of the tooth, and then placing a crown over it to restore the shape and look of the tooth.

We hope these insights provide some clarity on what to expect if your dentist tells you that you need one of these procedures. And if you’re looking to get a routine cleaning or exam, you’ll know whether a dentist is overcharging you or not based on this range! Google “dental care near me” to find accurate price quotes from dentists that won’t over charge!
