About All-on-8 Implant Concept

The All on 8 dental implants system consists in the placement of 8 dental implants per each dental arch, working as “anchors” for a fix and non removable dental bridge. This system is recommended in cases where the patient has lost more than 80% of their natural teeth. These dental implants will be supporting a fix dental bridge (permanently cemented over the implants) of between 12 to 14 units (teeth).

Before the Implant Procedure

Before receiving All-on-8, the patient needs to have enough bone to support the implants. If there is not enough bone, then a bone graft is needed. An All-on-8 requires more bone and more bone strength than an All-on-4.

During the Dental Procedure

In the first stage of All-on-8, the dental implants are placed into the jawbone. A provisional prosthesis can be attached straight away. Finally, once the implants have healed, a permanent solution such as a dental bridge or removable overdenture can be attached.

Local anesthetic.

Procedure duration

The All-on-8 takes 2 to 4 hours.

After the All-on-8 Procedure

Post procedure care

In the first 3 months following the procedure, the mouth will be healing and the bone and gums changing shape to adapt to the new fixture. In this time patients should exercise caution eating hard or very chewy foods.

Possible discomfort

Patients should expect considerable discomfort and swelling after the procedure. For most, the worst of the pain subsides after a week.
