About Tooth Hemisection

Hemisection dental surgery is a procedure in which a tooth with two roots is cut in half. This procedure may be needed when there is bone loss, or dental decay between the roots, due to gum (periodontal) disease. The dental surgeon cuts the tooth in half to remove the damaged bone and any damaged root or crown. The dentist tries to save most of the tooth, leaving a healthy root or roots, and the crown. A restoration crown is fitted as well.
